CAPE TOWN - Search teams have recovered the body of a man on Table Mountain. The unidentified body was spotted by a hiker on Wednesday.

The search team were assisted by a helicopter to recover the body of a man who is thought to have jumped to his death.

Wilderness Search and Rescue's Johann Marais confirmed the body is not that of missing hiker 25-year-old Taro Spies, who was last seen more than a month ago.

"We've no idea of the identity. We don't know whether they will find an ID on the person now that they are starting to handle the body."

He said a post mortem will be done to confirm the identity of the body.
