Mashaba insists he's implementing correct game plan
Bafana Bafana’s coach Shakes Mashaba says the only problem with his team is execution.
JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana's coach Shakes Mashaba says, despite a poor run of form, he is implementing the correct game plan with his team.
Bafana were held to a goalless draw by Gambia in their opening Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2017 qualifier at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
Mashaba says the only problem with his team is execution.
"In the second half we played with width and depth but unfortunately we couldn't finish. It wasn't because we didn't have certain players in the team but sometimes these happen."
Meanwhile, the national team's qualifier was delayed and moved from the initial 3pm kick off to 7pm.
Officials in charge of the match failed to arrive in the country on Friday night.
Bafana were looking to qualify for a second successive Afcon tournament, after making it to the 2015 edition earlier this year, where they crashed out in the group stages without winning a single game.
Anele Ngcongca captained the side in the absence of Dean Furman, while Itumeleng Khune, who is on his way out of Kaizer Chiefs, was in goals for the first time, at international level, since last year.
