Southern Cape area faces urgent housing needs
About 500,000 families are currently on the province's housing demand database.
CAPE TOWN - The Human Settlements Department says the need for housing in the Southern Cape and Drakenstein Municipalities has increased drastically in recent years.
Housing MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela says about 500,000 families are currently on the province's housing demand database.
Addressing the media in Cape Town today, Madikizela said his department is looking to particularly accommodate people who earn too little to afford a bank mortgage.
"We are looking at increasing the stock and increasing the demand for municipalities like George, Knysna, Oudtshoorn, so we have applied on behalf of the municipalities."
