Police keep an eye on Delft taxi rank
It’s business as usual at the taxi rank following a standoff between rival taxi associations.
CAPE TOWN - Cape Town police continue to patrol the Delft taxi rank after a tense standoff between drivers on Thursday morning.
Tensions ran high earlier as some taxi drivers tried to stage a protest.
Amid the usual daily bustle at the rank, commuters say they're still shaken by this morning's standoff.
Shots were fired when at least 50 taxis formed a blockade at the rank.
The dispute is believed to be part of an ongoing feud over routes between rival taxi bodies, namely the Cape Town Taxi Association (Cata) and the Delft Taxi Association.
Two men have since been taken in for questioning and a firearm has been confiscated.
Police are expected to meet with taxi bosses later today.
