JOHANNESBURG - Alexandra residents, police and government officials on Thursday gathered for the memorial service of slain officer major Thomas Moetlo.

Hundreds of people have gathered at the East Bank Hall in Alexandra.

Provincial police commissioner Lesetja Mothiba and MEC for Safety and Security Sizakele Nkosi Malobane are among the dignitaries present.

Tributes are pouring in for the late Moetlo.

A preliminary investigation shows that Masie lied about needing a firearm to escort a prisoner to a cell and was given the weapon without the proper protocols.
