CAPE TOWN - Cape Town soccer fans can look forward to seeing one of England's top football sides in action this winter when English Premier League club Crystal Palace play at the Cape Town Stadium in July.

The inaugural Cape Town Cup was unveiled earlier today and will feature host Ajax Cape Town, Crystal Palace, Sporting Lisbon and Supersport United between the 24 and 26 July.

Crystal Palace finished tenth in the English Premier League and produced some of the more exciting matches and upsets this season.

Palace CEO Phil Alexander has promised to bring their strongest side.

"We're taking it very seriously; we're going to bring our full team."

The tournament is also a welcome relief for the City of Cape Town tasked with ensuring the sustainability of Cape Town Stadium.

The City's Anton Groenewald says they are hoping the Cape Town Cup becomes an annual, high-profile international pre-season event.
