HARARE - A former top Zanu-PF official has reportedly been found dead in his car outside Harare.

Zimbabwean state radio is reporting that Amos Midzi, who once served as the country's ambassador to the US, was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Midzi's body was inside his car which was parked on his farm.

So far there's no real suggestion of foul play and those on the scene say there was a smell of pesticide just outside the car.

He was part of what's commonly known as the Gamatox Faction, linked to ex-vice president Joice Mujuru, which was accused of plotting to oust President Robert Mugabe.

Midzi was himself suspended, but not expelled from Zanu-PF last month.
