JOHANNESBURG - Power utility Eskom has announced that stage one load shedding will be implemented from 5 to 10pm on Tuesday.

It made the announcement via its Twitter account:

Eskom regrets to announce that stage 1 #load_shedding will be implemented from 17h00 to 22h00 today.

Earlier Eskom warned citizens that the risk of load shedding this evening was high.

The load shedding prognosis for today is low for the morning and high for the evening.

This is the second consecutive day load shedding has been implemented, following a period of nine days without enforced blackouts.

The power utility has also urged all customers to use electricity sparingly.

Please switch off geysers, pool pumps unnecessary lights and use energy efficient ways to keep warm. This will help reduce demand. Thank you
