Strand triple murder: Police hunt for suspects
Three men were burnt to death in an apparent mob justice attack in Strand on Sunday.
CAPE TOWN - Police are searching for suspects following a mob justice incident in which three people were killed in Asanda Village in Strand, allegedly after been accused of robbery.
Nomzamo Community leader Mandla Moyakhe says he woke up early Sunday morning to screams from residents from a neighbouring informal settlement.
He says upon his investigation, he was told men who had been accused of robbery had been rounded up by angry community members.
The trio had been assaulted and set alight.
Moyakhe says despite the scope of the crime nothing justifies vigilantism.
"Even if they did something wrong, it is not right to take the law into one's own hands."
The police's Tembinkosi Kinana said, "When police arrived there, they saw a group of people chanting songs. In investigating the circumstance around this incident, we've opened murder cases and we've not made any arrests at this stage."
No arrests have been made and police have appealed to anyone who could assist them to come forward with information.
