CAPE TOWN - The weather may be a problem in the Eastern Cape but in the Western Cape heavy rain this week brought some much-needed relief for farmers.

This follows an unusually dry summer that had many in the agriculture sector worried.

Agri Wes-Cape's Carl Opperman says they're very relieved.

"Farmers in the Western Cape are ecstatic about the rain they've had. The rain that we had so far it was a soft rain. The ground absorbed it like a dry sponge."

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape Eskom technicians are working around the clock to restore power to more than 15,000 homes.

Initially more than 40 000 households were without power due to inclement weather.
