JOHANNESBURG - Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member of Parliament, Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala is joining the United Democratic Movement (UDM).

Litchfield-Tshabalala, the first woman to attain the rank of admiral in the South African Navy, is one of four rebel EFF MPs sacked by the party in April after they launched a campaign to "save its soul".

UDM President Bantu Holomisa confirmed the move this morning.

He said the party recruited Litchfield-Tshabalala because of her skills and experience.

"There is no doubt in our minds that Tshabalala is coming with experience. She is a very eloquent speaker and she has been around in politics, and she is a very disciplined individual."
