Rameez Patel granted bail

The Limpopo businessman, accused of killing his wife Fatima, has been granted R250,000 bail.

JOHANNESBURG - A Polokwane businessman arrested in connection with the murder of his wife has been granted bail of R250,000.

Rameez Patel appeared in the local magistrates court on Tuesday morning.

He's accused of murdering his wife, Fatima in April.

Magistrate Mohammed Sheik made his judgment earlier on Tuesday, with the families of both Patel and Fatima in court.

Patel has maintained he didn't kill his wife, who was shot in the face.

Her relative, Tazneem Choonara said the family is shocked.

"We are not happy that Rameez got bail and the family is still traumatised over Fatima's death, still very hurt about how she died."

Patel's bail conditions stipulate he has to report to the police station three times a day.

His family said they will post the R250,000 bail later on Tuesday.

The case will be heard again on the 7 July.
