‘Parents need to report incidents of abuse’
Minister in the Presidency Susan Shabangu launched Child Protection Week at the Union Buildings on Monday.
PRETORIA - The gruesome murder of 14-year-old Elna Japhta in Bredasdorp, Cape Town, is the latest incident of child violence as the country marks National Child Protection Week.
Japhta's body was found under a bed in a shack she allegedly shared with a 27-year-old man who has since been arrested in connection with her murder.
Speaking at an event at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Monday, Minister in the Presidency Susan Shabangu urged the public to break the silence around the scourge.
"I want to call upon parents to take their responsibility and take a stand against any abuse not only of their biological children, but of any child."
