JOHANNESBURG - A police officer is expected to be discharged from hospital today after being shot and wounded by robbers at the Twin City Mall in Bloemfontein.

It's understood a gang of between six and eleven heavily armed men hit the busy mall on Friday night and wounded the constable.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money from a liquor shop before hijacking a woman and her young daughter.

The child was later dropped off at one of the entrances at the mall where she was found by police while her mother is recovering in a local hospital.

The police's Zweli Mohobeledi said, "They fired shots at the police vehicle. He was wounded but he is recovering."
