Mxolisi Nxasana steps down
President Zuma has reached a settlement with Nxasana, according to the Presidency.
JOHANNESBURG - National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Mxolisi Nxasana is stepping down.
The Presidency has confirmed that President Jacob Zuma has reached a settlement with Nxasana and he will vacate his position from tomorrow.
Last July, the president announced that he would institute an inquiry in order to determine Nxasana's fitness to hold office after it emerged last year he allegedly failed to disclose that he had previous brushes with the law. Nxasana challenged this in the North Gauteng High Court.
Zuma has now appointed Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions Mashau Silas Ramaite
as acting NDPP.
The presidency's Harold Baloka says, "Mr Nxasana will vacate his position as NDPP from 1 June. The President has expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr Nxasana for his contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavours."
