Man (50) killed in helicopter crash

JOHANNESBURG - North West police have opened an inquest docket after a 50-year-old man was killed in a helicopter crash near Delareyville earlier today.

Officers say the man was travelling with his wife and son from the Serapa safari just outside Vryburg when the aircraft crashed in an open field.

The man's 42-year-old wife and their 13-year-old son survived the crash and are recovering in hospital.

The police's Pelonomi Makau said, "His 46-year-old wife and their son who is 13 years sustained injuries when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Delareyville. At this stage the cause of the incident is unknown and Civil Aviation is investigating."
