CAPE TOWN - Barely a few hours into his new job as Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Danny Jordaan has already announced municipality officials will have to cut down on costs.

The Safa boss who was inaugurated on Thursday says this is in an effort to reduce unnecessary spending.

"There will need to be many cost cutting measures on non-core expenditures."

He added that municipal managers will also have to limit their trips overseas and look to cut costs by implementing measures to divert the funds where they're mostly needed.

"We've to cut on international flights (applause). We don't need a plane to go to mother world."

Jordaan has promised sweeping changes, talking tough on corruption, saying everything possible will be done to accelerate service delivery efforts in the metro.
