Several Gauteng govt members implicated in corruption
An anonymous letter has implicated staff of the Gauteng legislature of corruption & nepotism.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng legislature is investigating claims of corruption, wasteful expenditure and nepotism after an anonymous letter implicated several staff members.
Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe has refused to name those implicated in the document, saying they're still waiting for solid information to support the allegations.
The exact nature of the crimes has also not been disclosed, although it's believed they relate to catering contracts.
Mekgwe says they are taking this matter seriously.
"Staff members have rights in as much as they have responsibilities but they aren't guilty until proven guilty. I want all of us to wait for the Public Service Commissioner to come back to us after investigating."
