Thembelihle to be registered as a housing project

It’s hoped this will quell sporadic violent service delivery protests in the area.

JOHANENSBURG - The Thembelihle informal settlement, south of Johannesburg, is set to be registered as a housing project and the area is set for a major overhaul.

The announcement was made by Gauteng Co-operative Governance and Human settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo and the City of Joburg on Frday.

MMC for housing Dan Bovu says basic services in Thembelihle will continue pending a final geo-technical report.

Bovu says vulnerable groups like women, children and people living with disabilities will be prioritised.

"Once the audit is finished, vulnerable groups that will be identified and prioritised on projects."
