CAPE TOWN - A unit at the troubled Medupi Power Station's Unit 6 is expected to be fully operational by the end of June.

The plant has been beset by problems.

A protracted strike at its construction site only added to Eskom's woes.

But Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown told Members of Parliament (MPs) during her budget vote speech on Thursday, she's confident the plant will be up and running soon.

"A year ago, I backed Eskom's promise that Medupi Unit 6 would be having its full capacity of about 800 megawatts by mid-2015. I am very pleased to announce that the run-up towards full output has passed the 700 megawatt milestone."
