JOHANNESBURG - The National Energy Regulator South Africa (Nersa) says it will only make a decision about whether to authorise Eskom's application for a tariff hike at the end of June.

Nersa issued a statement today showing a timeline for processing the application for a 25,3 percent hike.

Stakeholders and members of the public will be given an opportunity to comment on the price hike.

Nersa's Charles Hlebela said, "We will publish Eskom's application on the Nersa website and we will also invite written comments from the public and stakeholders; and on 23 and 24 June we will have a public hearing on the application. The decision will be made on 29 June."

Meanwhile, Eskom says stage one load shedding will kick in at 4 pm and is likely to last until about 10 pm tonight.

In July last year, Nersa said it will look at affordability of electricity and Eskom's sustainability.
