Buffalo City Mayor in hot water after violating bail conditions
A warrant of arrest was issued for Zukiswa Ncitha on Tuesday after she allegedly violated bail conditions.
CAPE TOWN - An Eastern Cape mayor has until close of business today to explain why she allegedly intimidated a key witness in the Nelson Mandela memorial fraud case.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Buffalo City Municipality Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha on Tuesday after she allegedly violated bail conditions.
Ncitha is one of 10 officials out on bail after they were charged with misappropriating money earmarked for memorial services for Mandela in December 2013.
Ncitha's office said she was just carrying out her mayoral duties when she suspended municipal manager Andile Fani.
But Fani is a key witness in the Mandela memorial fraud case in which Ncitha is a suspect.
The Buffalo City council suspended Fani for alleged tender and financial irregularities.
He claims these allegations surfaced because he's decided to turn state witness.
The Mandela memorial fraud case continues in the East London Regional Court on 31 July.
