235 illegal immigrants arrested

JOHANNESBURG - Police have confirmed 235 illegal immigrants have been arrested following a joint police and army crime prevention operation in the Johannesburg CBD yesterday.

The Central Methodist Church which previously accommodated foreigners was also raided.

Police have been targeting several crime hot spots following the recent xenophobic flare ups in the country.

Authorities also discovered a body of a man in one of the buildings during yesterday's operation.

The police's Katlego Mogale said, "The total number arrested is 211 males and 24 females and estimates have been processed at the police station, they will be taken to Lindela Repatriation Centre."
