Eskom proposes massive electricity hike
Eskom has confirmed it’s asking Nersa for a whopping 25,3 percent price increase.
JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has confirmed that it's asking the National Energy Regulator (Nersa) to increase the price of electricity by 25,3 percent.
The proposed increase includes the 12,6 percent it has already approved.
The utility has been battling financially and has asked for the tariff increases in order to recover some of the billions it has spent on the diesel operated generators.
Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe says at this stage Nersa still has to approve the proposed hikes.
"Nothing has been approved, in terms of the processes, Nersa will issue public notices asking for people to come forward with their proposals or arguments as to whether we should or shouldn't be getting this carried."
