JOHANNESBURG - The Orlando West community task team leading a protest against prepaid electricity meters on Wednesday said Eskom should switch off power to their entire ward.

It vowed to continue blockading roads until their demands were met.

About 200 Soweto residents started an early morning protest on Vilakazi and Khumalo Street in Klipvalley.

They demanded that Eskom stop remotely switching off electricity of people who aren't paying and say they can only afford a flat monthly rate of R400.

Community task team secretary Matiti Mhlongo said residents would not back down.

"Since they are not willing to meet our demands, let them switch off electricity for everyone because it's getting out of hand."
