CAPE TOWN - Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said her department will be reviewing the taxi recapitalisation model.

Expenditure on the review is projected at more than R188 million.

Delivering her budget vote speech in Parliament late on Tuesday afternoon, Peters also announced R12.5 billion has been set aside for South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral's) non-toll roads.

Peters said the taxi recapitalisation model will be reviewed to improve its effectiveness and affordability.

"We commit more than ever before as the ANC government that we will work closely with the taxi industry to facilitate their regulation and participation in the total transport van chain."

The Democratic Alliance used the occasion to rip into Sanral's management, citing low toll revenue collection figures and widespread public opposition to the electronic tolling system as evidence of the agency's failures.
