Motshekga unfazed over his criticism of Madonsela
Madonsela and her team failed to provide Parliament with a comprehensive budget and strategy report.
CAPE TOWN - Chairperson of Parliament's Justice Portfolio Committee, Mathole Motshekga, has dismissed opposition criticism of his treatment of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela as cheap politicking, hot air and silly.
Motshekga and African National Congress (ANC) Members of Parliament (MPs) threatened to send Madonsela and her team back to the drawing board for not providing them with a comprehensive report when she presented her office's budget and strategic plan last week.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it intends bringing a motion of no confidence in Motshekga, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has lodged a formal complaint against him with National Assembly Speaker, Baleka Mbete.
Motshekga is not fazed.
"The EFF raised an issue and that issue has not been debated so it's premature for them to really think of going to the speaker so they are not serious about the business of the committee, they just want cheap publicity and that is what they are getting."
He said Madonsela will be asked to return next week to provide a full report.
"We believe the office is important it must be given enough time to make presentations because we want to seriously consider a request and we need full information before we can do so." [LISTEN] Mathole Motshekga and Thuli Madonsela have their say
