Alleged 28s gang leader & co-accused in court for sentencing
George Thomas & 17 co-accused collectively face 166 charges, including murder.
CAPE TOWN - The court case involving a number of alleged gangsters resumes in the Western Cape High Court today.
An alleged leader of the 28s gang, George Thomas and his 17 co-accused, collectively face 166 charges ranging from murder to attempted murder.
Thomas has been in custody since 2008.
More than four years and 164 witnesses later, the sentencing of the alleged 28s gang leader and 17 fellow gang members is expected to start in the Western Cape High Court today.
Thomas faces more than 160 charges, among them murder, extortion and conspiracy to commit murder.
Six of the charges against him and the co-accused are related to the murder of six potential state witnesses.
Two people who took the witness stand were murdered after testifying.
It's alleged 12 witnesses and their families have already been placed in witness protection.
