Taxi driver shot dead

A taxi driver has been killed after he was shot eight times by a group of men in Parktown in Johannesburg.

JOHANNESBURG - A taxi driver has been killed after he was shot eight times by a group of men in Parktown in Johannesburg this afternoon.

Police say the driver was refuelling his vehicle at a BP garage on Empire Road when he was approached by three armed men.

One passenger was also injured in the attack and taken to hospital.

The police's Kay Makhubela says they are investigating a case of murder.

"The men were driving a Polo, two men jumped out and started shooting at him, he died at the scene."
