Eskom recovers R54m from defaulting municipalities
10 out of 20 municipalities have come forward to settle an outstanding electricity debt with the utility.
Eskom has confirmed that half of the 20 municipalities with outstanding bills have come to an agreement to settle their accounts with the company.
The parastatal has warned them it will cut their power supplies from June unless they pay up.
Eskom said it has been able to recover R54 million so far.
Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said, "We are hoping that the remaining 10 will take a lesson out of this arrangement so that they can also come forward and so that we can all avoid the possibility of having to disrupt the lights of people who are paying."
