Eskom trying to avoid #loadshedding this evening
Eskom has warned that margins between supply and demand are still narrow.
JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says it is trying to avoid load shedding this evening and more the rest of the week as it continues to repair generators and equipment at a number of power plants.
The utility has been conducting a so-called maintenance festival to try and avoid load shedding.
Eskom says while it has made major progress with repairing generators, margins between supply and demand are still narrow.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says, "I must caution though that most of the time we see a lot of demand late in the afternoon, especially from 5pm to 8pm, that's when we come under some severe risk."
He says cold conditions are also a factor to be considered.
"Some parts of the country are getting colder and that's when they use a lot of electricity."
Despite measures to prevent load shedding, Eskom is still calling for South Africans to realise that the overall supply problem has not been resolved yet.
