CAPE TOWN - The family of a missing Malmesbury teacher says suicide notes were discovered in their son's car.

The search for Dean Dempsey has been called off, and his parents now fear that their son might have taken his own life.

Dempsey was last seen at the Swartland High School hostel on 10 April, almost two weeks ago.

His car was recently discovered in the Eastern Cape.

The 25-year-old's father Mike says they're becoming increasingly despondent.

"We can't get closure you know, because at this point in time, we don't know what happened to him, although we suspect it was suicide because he left some notes in his car."
