Firefighters battle blaze near Ceres
At least eight Working on Fire teams have been dispatched to the area on the slopes of the Bainskloof.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape firefighters are still battling a blaze that started near Ceres four days ago.
At least eight Working on Fire teams have been dispatched to the area on the slopes of the Bainskloof mountains between Ceres and Wellington.
This week two firefighters Darrel Rea and Jastun Visagie were killed when their helicopter crashed while assisting in efforts to extinguish the blaze.
Working on Fire spokesperson Linton Rensburg says they've brought in additional reinforcements.
"Right now our major concern is to ensure that the fire spread is contained. This fire of course is not the only fire we currently have. There was a fire out in Kluitjieskraal area that started earlier today."
Firefighters say they've had to deal with at least 15 vegetation fires in the province since the beginning of this week.
"This is obviously a major concern for us right now, normally the fire season would have come to an end at the end of March but it looks likely to be extended."
