Nomgcobo Jiba questions legitimacy of summons
She faces fraud & perjury charges related to the failed prosecution of KZN Hawks head Johan Booysen.
JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Nomgcobo Jiba, has questioned the legitimacy of the summons ordering her to appear in court, and claims irregularities led to it being served on her.
Jiba made her first appearance in the Regional Court in Pretoria yesterday, where the matter was postponed until June.
She faces charges of fraud and perjury related to the failed prosecution of KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Major-General Johan Booysen.
Jiba's advocate Zola Majavu says he will call Major Norman Taioa to the stand to explain the circumstances that led to the summons being served on his client.
"We're saying, as matters stand, that investigation could have been complete because the investigating officer says so. If someone says it was complete then it's fine, we will see that when we receive the contents of the docket on 10 June."
Prosecutor Jan Ferreira says the state will be ready to hand over the docket when the matter returns to court in June.
This means the state is ready to proceed with the trial.
