JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says load shedding is expected to be implemented during evening peak hours this week.

Stage one rolling blackouts kicked in from 5pm yesterday afternoon due to generators breaking down and extensive maintenance work.

But Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe says they expect to have enough capacity during the day.

"From around 5pm to 8pm, that's when we'll be seeing a strain on the power system."

Yesterday, Eskom warned that there was a 'medium to high' possibility of load shedding and urged customers to use electricity sparingly.

It also implemented stage one load shedding from 8am on Sunday, as its water and diesel reserves were low.

South Africans have experienced rolling blackouts for over a week now.
