JOHANNESBURG - The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) says it's shocked and saddened by the death of the Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (Limusa) President Sifiso Maphumulo.

Maphumulo died in an accident on the N3 at the weekend while travelling from Durban.

The metal workers union had scheduled a press briefing yesterday at Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) house following its first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Last month, Cosatu accepted Limusa as a new affiliate.

Sadtu's general secretary Mugwena Maluleke says, "We wish to say to the leadership of Limusa they need to take this fear and move on and build a strong union in protection of the workers' rights."
