JOHANNESBURG - The Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (Limusa) says it's lost a great leader with the death of its president Sifiso Maphumulo.

Limusa was the Congress of South African Trade Unions' newly affiliated metalworkers union.

The union was admitted into the Cosatu fold last month after the ousting of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa earlier this year.

Maphumulo died in an accident on the N3 highway while travelling with three other members to Johannesburg for a press conference.

The union was scheduled to address the media on its first national executive committee meeting this morning.

Limusa's general secretary Cedric Gina who was amongst the passengers in the car on Saturday evening has described the Maphumulo's death as a great loss.

"We were still looking forward to his wise words to the workers."
