CAPE TOWN - The two top candidates for one of the Democratic Alliance (DA)'s most sought-after position are both confident ahead of today's provincial congress.

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille will go head to head with former Provincial Police Commissioner Lennit Max for the position of provincial leader.

Both candidates say they're positive about their chances to take over the reins from Ivan Meyer.

The His People Church in Goodwood will play host to a battle between two highly respected leaders within the official opposition party.

De Lille says she's done all she can over the last few months, to sway the votes in her favour.

"I have put in a lot of effort and time and energy, in preparation."

Max, who's had unsuccessful attempts for the same position in 2007 and 2010, remains upbeat.

"I worked very hard over the past three months and I feel very positive that I'll be victorious."
