Zim father jailed for circumcising his sons
Peter Nyachega was convicted under the Domestic Violence Act on a charge of physical abuse.
HARARE - In shocking case of child abuse, a Zimbabwean man has been jailed for four months for circumcising his two sons with a pair of nail clippers.
The 33-year-old father from eastern Zimbabwe told a court that as a child he'd been circumcised in exactly the same way by his father.
Peter Nyachega was convicted under the Domestic Violence Act on a charge of physical abuse.
The privately-owned _Newsday _said that was after he circumcised his two sons, aged two and four, with a pair of nail clippers last November.
Mutare Magistrate Sekai Chiundura said yesterday that Nyachega was "a bad father" and his sons were better off without him.
She sentenced him to four months in jail.
Male circumcision isn't widely practised in Zimbabwe, a voluntary government-run programme for adults has had only a low response.
