JOHANNESBURG - Vasco da Gama showed plenty of character, coming from behind twice at the daunting Thohoyandou Stadium, to defeat Black Leopards 3-2 after extra-time in the second quarter-final of the Nedbank Cup.

It was an all first division encounter at the Thohoyandou Stadium, Vasco da Gama travelled across the country to face Black Leopards.

Thohoyandou has always been an intimidating venue for any visiting side, and Roggert Nyundu's brilliantly taken 16th minute free-kick proved too good for Vasco goalkeeper Steven Hoffman.

The visitors hadn't looked like scoring until Ndiviwe Mdabuka rifled in with less than 20 minutes remaining.

It was timely as extra-time was needed to find a winner, and it was in this period that Vasco came to the party.

Having gone behind again, they were quick to reply as Zeka Karkee found the back of the net, before Mbulelo Wambi's sweetly-stuck free kick won it for the visitors.

Vasco through to the semi-finals as the only non-top flight side, Leopards defeated for the first time in nearly four months.
