JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates were held to a pulsating 3-3 draw by Platinum Stars at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night, with goals from Mpho Makola, Oupa Manyisa and Issa Sarr for Pirates, while Mogakolodi Ngele netted a hat-trick for Dikwena.

It was the Botswana international's show as he led the charge for Dikwena with an incredible hat-trick. Pirates were forced to wrestle a point and to keep up the heat on Mamelodi Sundowns, who were also held 1-1 by Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Mbombela Stadium last night.

Orlando Pirates Caretaker coach Eric Tinkler says his team showed a splendid performance despite conceding a huge number of goals.

"I think everybody can see that the fighting spirit is there, which was gone for quite a long time."

All three of Ngele's goals put Stars in the lead but some poor defending saw Pirates equalise on all three occasions.

Stars coach Cavin Johnson was astounded by his hat-trick hero's performance and says that's how he knows Ngele.

"If I ask him to play for me, he plays like that. He's gifted; he's got a left foot that 10 other people would cry for."

Stars sit eleventh on the log with 28 points, while Pirates remain in third position with 44 points.

Tonight log leaders Kaizer Chiefs take on bottom-of-the-log Amazulu at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
