Afghan woman pregnant with rapist’s third child
The woman was jailed for adultery after being raped by her cousin’s husband and later forced to marry him.
JOHANNESBURG - A young Afghan woman who was jailed for adultery after she was raped by her cousin's husband said only agreed to marry the man for the sake of her eldest child.
The story of Gulnaz, who was barely 16-years-old at the time of the attack, sparked international outrage, which eventually lead to her being granted a presidential pardon in 2011.
However, her troubles were far from over as she was given the choice to marry her convicted rapist or be shunned by her family and community.
She is now pregnant with her rapist's third child and said she only lives for her daughter.
"Now, I couldn't fulfil my wishes in life. I married this man. I cut relations with my family only to buy my daughter's future."
