JOHANNESBURG - A number of tip-offs from community members in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal have led to the arrests of five suspects linked to the deaths of three police officers including the killing of two cops on the N3 last Sunday.

The suspects will be appearing in Johannesburg and Durban courts on Monday.

Various policing units and members of the private security forces were involved in the arrests.

Gauteng police said they will make good on the promise to bring the alleged police killers to book.

The police's Noxolo Kweza said the arrests would not have been possible without information given by community members.

She said police received tip-offs from communities hours after both incidents took place.

Four of the suspects were linked to the killing of Constables Mothokozisi Myeza and Casey Mafakoane who were killed on the N3 highway near Edenvale more than a week ago.

The other suspect was sought in connection with the killing of Constable Malesela Ledwaba who was shot and killed in front of Park Station in Johannesburg two weeks ago.

Gauteng police offered a reward of R400,000 for any information leading to the successful conviction of those responsible for the officers' deaths.
