JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have offered a reward of R400,000 for any information that leads to the successful conviction of those responsible for the two latest crimes in which officers were killed.

Yesterday, two police officers were gunned down while patrolling the N3 highway in Modderfontein when a group of suspects opened fire on them.

A third officer is still in hospital in a stable condition.

In another crime just last week, an officer was killed at Park Station while chasing suspects who robbed a bakery.

The police's Theko Pharasi says they will fight back.

"If the criminals think we will give up because they are shooting at us, then they have another thing coming. We will do this within the confines of the law, and we'll ensure that our members' deaths are not in vain."

The second police officer who was injured during the shootout on the N3 highway later died on Sunday.

The officers were apparently trying to stop a suspicious vehicle on the highway when suspects opened fire, one officer was confirmed dead shortly after the shootout.
