Vavi: Time for a new approach has arrived
Zwelinzima Vavi says he’s not going to make it easy for those who want to hijack the federation.
JOHANNESBURG - Congress of South African Trade Union (Cosatu) General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says he's not resigning from his position because he's not going to make it easy for those who want to hijack the federation.
He announced this afternoon that he will deliberately defy Cosatu's Central Executive Committee and not attend its meeting on Monday.
Vavi says he simply cannot continue to be a part of endless internal wrangling in boardrooms and has come to a simple conclusion.
"Time for a new approach has arrived. Workers will not stand by while the leaders fight it out in the endless boardroom battles."
He says he also won't handover Cosatu to people on a platter.
