Chinese national bust for possession of rhino horn & abalone

JOHANNESBURG - A Chinese national has been arrested in possession of rhino horn and abalone.

The 32-year-old man was allegedly en route to Durban when he was nabbed by Border Police's anti-smuggling team on Wednesday.

He was caught at Cape Town International Airport.

The Police's Frederick van Wyk said the man would be charged under both the Nature Conservation and Marine Coastal Resources Acts.

"He was found in possession of five kilograms of rhino horn and shucked abalone. The suspect is currently in police custody and will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court once he has been charged."
