CAPE TOWN - Emergency officials are on high alert as heavy rains are expected to hit parts of the Karoo and Cape Winelands District Municipality on Wednesday.

Affected areas include Laingsburg, Beaufort West, Montagu and Ceres.

Meiringspoort Pass had to be closed earlier this week due to flash flooding and mudslides.

Provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa says, "We again expecting heavy rainfall in that area. We are asking motorists when using the Meiringspoort Pass to be extra careful. We will have visible policing in that area."
