Union: SABC board shenanigans concerning
The CWU is concerned about reports of the chair threatening to suspend two board members.
JOHANNESBURG - The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) says it is extremely concerned about reports that the South African Broadcasting (SABC) board's acting chairperson has threatened to suspend two board members.
The City Press is reporting that acting chairperson Obert Maguvhe has written to Rachel Kalidass and Ronnie Lubisi accusing them of fraudulent conduct and asking them to give reasons why they should not be suspended.
Recently another SABC board member Hope Zinde was removed from her position following accusations she'd disclosed confidential board information.
CWU President Clyde Mervin says this will have an effect on the public broadcaster's stability.
"We just see board members get suspended left right and centre and there's also no consultation between board members and the union. We are concerned about how the minister is handling current shenanigans with the board."
