Parts of Overberg without power after veld fire
Firefighters are still battling the blaze which broke out over the mountains.
JOHANNESBURG - Parts of the Overberg district in the Western Cape are without power this afternoon after a runaway veld fire damaged power lines in the area.
Firefighters are still battling the blaze which broke out over the mountains between Caledon and Hermanus on Friday.
Fire crews worked through the night to stop the fire from spreading onto nearby properties.
Overberg disaster management's Reinardt Geldenhuys says they've managed to bring the blaze under control.
"The fire was threatening several properties during the course of yesterday and last night, we managed to avert that threat overnight, everything looks quite good except for the damage to the Eskom higher power lines which feed electricity to Hermanus."
The blaze comes a few days after fires ravaged most of the Southern Cape Peninsula.
