Speculation mounts in Gauteng Hawks boss' car crash
Shadrack Sibiya and his attorney were both involved in the accident on the M1 north.
PRETORIA - While speculation continues around the cause of a car accident that nearly killed Hawks boss, Shadrack Sibiya, Eyewitness News understands it was the result of difficult driving conditions.
It's understood Sibiya and his attorney, Victor Nkwashu, were both involved in the crash on the M1 north, but the lawyer walked away with minor injuries.
Sibiya is currently fighting his suspension in the High Court in Pretoria which will rule on Monday whether he can return to work or not.
The Hawks boss and his superior, Anwa Dramat, were implicated in the rendition of five Zimbabweans in 2010 but have been cleared by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
Grainy photographs obtained exclusively by EWN , show raindrops covering Sibiya's wrecked BMW.
It's understood he had just entered the M1 north when he hit a puddle and lost control of the vehicle, before rolling several times off the highway.
Nkwashu was lucky to walk away with just a few bruises and whiplash, while Sibiya broke several ribs, and underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a broken collar bone.
It's understood he is still in intensive care.
